dc.description.abstractThis thesis is entitled “Directive Illocutionary Acts in Pastoral Sunday Sermons at GKPI Padang Bulan Medan”. This thesis aimed to find out the types of directive illocutionary acts and the functions of directive illocutionary acts that used in Pastoral Sunday Sermons at GKPI Padang Bulan Medan based on Bach and Harnish‟s theory (1979). The research method that is used in this thesis is descriptive qualitative method. The finding shows that there are 40 data in Pastoral Sunday Sermons. There are six types of directive illocutionary acts are found : 2 requestives, 19 questions, 5 requirements, 5 prohivibitives, 1 permissive, 8 advisories. The functions of the directive illocutionary acts are also found in Pastoral Sunday Sermos. Requestive act has the function to ask (2), Questions act has the function to ask (19). Requirement act has the function to require (5). Prohivitive act has the function to forbid (4), to prohibit (1). Permissive act has the function to allow (1). Advisory act has the function to advise (6), to warn (2). It can be concluded that the most dominant type of directive illocutionary acts found in Pastoral Sunday Sermons at GKPI Padang Bulan Medan is question act with the function to ask. It implies that the Pastor gives question to the congregation about their faith in God especially in the advent month.en_US
