The Procedures of Subtitling “Spectre” Movie by Two Freelance Translators

Abstract

This thesis entitiled “The Procedures of Subtitling Spectre Movie by Two Freelance Translators” is a linguistic study. This study focuses on translation procedure used by two freelance translators, Pein Akatsuki and Lebah Ganteng, in Bahasa subtitles of Spectre movie. The objectives of this study are (1) To find out the translation procedures used by the translators in subtitling Spectre movie and (2) To describe the way of the translators subtitle the Spectre Movie. Newmark theory (1988:68) is used to analyzed the translation procedure in the subtitles of Spectre movie. This is a descriptive qualitative study. The writer found that there are eight out of nineteen procedures used by both of the freelance translators in subtitling the “Spectre” movie, which are Literal, Transference, Naturalisation, Cultural Equivalent, Transposition, Modulation, Reduction and Expansion, and Couplets and Triplets. The findings show in terms of translation procedures used by the translator that from 75 data, there are 30 data that used different procedure in the same data. The most dominant procedure used by both of the freelance translators in subtitling the “Spectre” movie is Literal procedure. Pein Akatsuki used Literal in 52% of the data, While Lebah Ganteng used Literal in 50,7% of the data

Skripsi yang berjudul “The Procedures of Subtitling Spectre Movie by Two Freelance Translators” adalah sebuah studi linguistik. Penelitian ini mengkaji tentang prosedur penerjemahan yang digunakan oleh dua penerjemah lepas, Pein Akatsuki dan Lebah Ganteng, pada subtitle bahasa Indonesia film Spectre. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) mengetahui prosedur penerjemahan yang digunakan oleh penerjemah dalam menerjemahkan subtitle film Spectre dan (2) mendeskripsikan bagaimana penerjemah menerjemahkan subtitle film Spectre. Teori Newmark (1988:68) adalah teori yang digunakan dalam menganalisis prosedur penerjemahan pada subtitle film Spectre. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Penulis menemukan bahwa ada 8 dari 19 prosedur yang digunakan oleh kedua penerjemah lepas dalam menerjemahkan film Spectre, yaitu Literal, Transference, Naturalisation, Cultural Equivalent, Transposition, Modulation, Reduction and Expansion, and Couplets and Triplets. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 75 data, ada sekitar 30 data yang menggunakan prosedur yang berbeda pada data yang sama. Prosedur yang paling dominan yang digunakan oleh kedua penerjemah lepas dalam menerjemahkan film Spectre adalah prosedur Literal. Pein Akatsuki menggunakan prosedur literal pada 52% dari data, sedangkan Lebah Ganteng menggunakan prosedur Literal pada 50,7% dari data.
