dc.description.abstractThis thesis entitled “CODE SWITCHING IN NOVEL ENTITLED “CHINA RICH GIRLFRIEND” BY KEVIN KWAN” analyzes the three types and six functions of code switching that uttered in the novel. In the China Rich Girlfriend novel, there are some characters that switching one language to another language base on social circumstances. The researcher believes that code-switching that uttered in the novel are unique and compelling to be analyzed because there is more than two codes are uttered on the dialogue of the novel. The analysis of this thesis based on Poplack‟s (1980) theory that consist three types of code-switching and Gumperz‟s (1982) theory that consists six functions of code-switching. The types of code switching that found in the novel are tag-switching, inter-sentential switching and intra-sentential switching. Furthermore, for the functions they are quotation, addressee specification, interjection, reiteration, message qualification, and personalization. Moreover, the method used in analyzing is descriptive qualitative research. In this thesis, there are one hundred and sixteen (116) data from the utterances by the characters in the novel that using code-switching. After doing this research, the result can be concluded that the dominant types of code-switching that used by the characters is intra-sentential switching which represents 54 data (46,5%), next followed by tag switching is 51 data (44,0%) and inter-sentential switching is 11 data(9,5%). The writer also concluded that the most dominant functions used by the characters is interjections which consist 40 data (34,5%), and followed by personalization 34 data (29,3%), addressee specification 19 data (16,3%), message qualification 19 data (16,3%), quotation 2 data (1,8%), and reiteration 2 data (1,8%).en_US
dc.description.abstractSkripsi yang berjudul “CODE SWITCHING IN NOVEL ENTITLED “CHINA RICH GIRLFRIEND” BY KEVIN KWAN”. Berisi kajian pembelajaran tentang ragam jenis dan fungsi dari code-switching. Di dalam novel, ada beberapa karakter yang berpindah dari satu bahasa ke bahasa lainnya sesuai dengan situasi sosialnya. Penulis berpendapat kalau penggunaan code-switching dalam percakapan didalam novel ini sangat unik dan menarik untuk dianalisis karena lebih dari dua bahasa digunakan didalam percakapan. Analisis didalam skripsi ini menggunakan teori Poplack‟s (1980) untuk tiga tipe dan teori Gumperz‟s (1982) untuk enam fungsi dari code-switching. Tipe-tipe dari teori Poplack‟s (1980) yaitu tag-switching, inter-sentential switching dan intra-sentential switching. Untuk fungsinya yang menggunakan teori Gumperz‟s (1982) yaitu quotation, addressee specification, interjection, reiteration, message qualification, dan personalization. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam menganalisis masalah untuk skripsi ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Di dalam skripsi ini, terdapat seratus enam belas (116) data dari percakapan antar karakter didalam novel yang menggunakan code-switching. Setelah melakukan penelitian maka dapat disimpulkan bawah jenis tipe dari code-switching yang paling banyak digunakan adalah intra-sentential switching sebanyak 54 data (46,5%), lalu diikuti oleh tag switching sebanyak 51 data (44,0%) dan intersentential switching sebanyak 11 data(9,5%). Penulis juga menyimpulkan bawah fungsi dari code-switching yang paling banyak di gunakan oleh karakter didalam novel adalah interjections sebanyak 40 data (34,5%), lalu diikuti oleh personalization sebanyak 34 data (29,3%), addressee specification sebanyak 19 data (16,3%), message qualification sebanyak 19 data (16,3%), quotation sebanyak 2 data (1,8%), dan reiteration sebanyak 2 data (1,8%).en_US
