An Analysis of Illocutionary Acts Used by the Main Character in Date Night Movie

Abstract

This research is conducted to find out the types of illocutionary acts in the movie entitled Date Night, the way the main character applies those types, and the reasons of the main character to utter those types. Those answers for objectives of the study are analysis of illocutionary acts used by the main character in Date Night movie to Yule‟s and Searle‟s theories. The pragmatic approach with speech acts is used in this research as the field of study. It is a descriptive qualitative research and purposive sampling as the sampling technique is employed. The data are in the form of lingual units, i.e. words, phrases, clauses, or sentences. The data analysis of this research are based on the findings of the illocutionary acts classification. In this research, all the types of illocutionary acts are found 448 utterances which used the main character (Phil) expressed four of five types in illocutionary acts. They are representative 219(48,8%), directive 135(30%), commissive 18(4%), and expressive 76(16%). Those types of illocutionary acts are expressed in the movie with the result that the main character does not express declaratives type in this movie. It is not used by the main character in this movie. Those types of illocutionary act are expressed in this movie because Phil wants to presents external reality by making his utterances fit with the world as he believes it to be, to get the listener to do something, to commit to the listener will do some future actions, and to express what he feels about something.

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis ilokusi dalam film Date Night, cara penutur menerapkan jenis-jenis tersebut, dan alasan penutur mengucapkannya. Adapun jawaban atas tujuan penelitian tersebut adalah Analisis tindak ilokusi yang digunakan oleh tokoh utama dalam Date Night terhadap teori Yule and Searle. Pendekatan pragmatis dengan tindak tutur digunakan dalam penelitian ini sebagai bidang studi. penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dan purposive sampling sebagai teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan. Data tersebut berupa satuan bahasa, yaitu kata, frasa, klausa, atau kalimat. Analisis data penelitian ini didasarkan pada temuan klasifikasi ilokusi. Dalam penelitian ini ditemukan jenis ilokusi, 448 ujaran yang digunakan tokoh utama (Phil) yang diungkapkan empat dari lima jenis ilokusi. Terdiri dari representatif 219 (48,8%), direktif 135 (30%), komisif 18 (4%), dan ekspresif 76 (16%). Jenis ilokusi tersebut diekspresikan dalam film sehingga Phil tidak mengungkapkan jenis deklaratif dalam film ini. Itu tidak digunakan oleh Phil sebagai pemeran utama dalam film ini. Jenis ilokusi tersebut diekspresikan dalam film ini karena Phil ingin menghadirkan realitas eksternal dengan membuat ucapannya sesuai dengan dunia yang ia yakini, mengajak pendengar melakukan sesuatu, berkomitmen kepada pendengar akan melakukan beberapa tindakan di masa depan. , dan untuk mengungkapkan apa yang dia rasakan tentang sesuatu.
