An Analysis on Figures of Speech In William Wordsworth’s Poems

Abstract

This thesis entitled An Analysis on Figures of Speech in William Wordsworth’s Poems. The purpose of this study is to identify the types of figures of speech used in William Wordsworth‟s poems and to describe the figure of speech realized in William Wordsworth‟s poems. The design of this research was qualitative design. The data in this research is written text in the form of words and phrases taken from 3 poems by William Wordsworth entitled The Longest Day, A Farewell and Foresight. The data collected by reading, selecting, analyzing, identifying and transferring the selected data into the data sheet. Analysis of data qualitatively using the analysis phase of Miles, Huberman and Saldana: condensation, display and verification. The research result show the types of figures of speech used in William Wordsworth‟s poem The Longest Day are 7 types figures of speech, in A Farewell poetry are 12 types figures of speech and in Foresight are 6 types figures of speech. The figure of speech is realized by William in personality/individuality. It is recommended to further researcher to expand the study about figures of speech in different objects.

Skripsi ini berjudul An Analysis on Figures of Speech in William Wordsworth’s Poems. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengidentifikasi jenis figure of speech yang digunakan dalam puisi William Wordsworth dan mendeskripsikan bagaimana figure of speech diwujudkan. Desain penelitian adalah kualitatif. Data berupa teks tertulis dalam bentuk kata dan frase yang diambil dari 3 puisi karya William Wordsworth berjudul The Longest Day, A Farewell and Foresight. Pengumpulan data melalui tahapan membaca, memilih, menganalisis, mengidentifikasi dan mentransfer data terpilih ke dalam lembar data. Analisis data secara kualitatif menggunakan tahap analisis Miles, Huberman dan Saldana: kondensasi, display dan verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan jenis figure of speech yang digunakan dalam puisi William Wordsworth yaitu dalam The Longest Day ada 7 jenis, dalam puisi A Farewell ada 12 jenis dan dalam Foresight ada 6 jenis. Figure of speech direalisasikan William secara individualitas. Disarankan kepada peneliti selanjutnya untuk memperluas kajian tentang figure of speech pada objek yang berbeda.
