Illocutionary Acts in Pastor Nadine Raphael’s Inspiring Sermons

Abstract

This thesis aims to describe (1) the types of illocutionary speech acts, and (2) the functions of illocutionary speech acts. This thesis used a descriptive qualitative method. The data source in this thesis is the utterances uttered by Pastor Nadine Raphael in her sermons entitled Look to God for A Courage, Stay with God, Surviving Spiritual Warfare and Walking in Assurance which was downloaded from youtube in the form of video. Based on data analysis, two conclusions can be drawn, First the types of illocutionary speech acts found were assertive, directive, commissive, expressive and declaration. Second, the function of illocutionary speech acts found were competitive, collaborative, conflictive and convivial. This research is expected to be able to provide insight about linguistic characteristic found in speeches of inspired figure and classification of speech acts for pracmatic students.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan (1) jenis tindak tutur ilokusi, dan (2) fungsi tindak tutur ilokusi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah tuturan yang diucapkan Pastor Nadine Raphael dalam kotbahnya yang berjudul Look to God for A Courage, Stay with God, Surviving Spiritual Warfare dan Walking in Assurance yang di unduh dari youtube dalam bentuk video. Berdasarkan analisa data dapat ditarik dua simpulan. Pertama, jenis tindak tutur ilokusi yang ditemukan berupa Assertif, Direktif, Komisif, Ekspresif dan Deklarasi. Kedua, fungsi tindak tutur ilokusi yang ditemukan berupa Kompetitif, Kolaboratif, Konflik dan Konvivial. Penelitian ini diharapkan mampu memberi wawasan tentang tata cara kebahasaan dalam tuturan tokoh inspirasi dan klasifikasi tindak tutur bagi peserta didik Pragmatik.
