The Translation Quality Assessment Of The Crazy Rich Asians Indonesian Subtitle From Netflix

Abstract

Realize it or not, the translation field has an influence in movie industry. In subtitling a movie, for example, there must be a process of translation. People from Indonesia could watch a Western, Korean, Indian movie or series and understand what they say with the help of Indonesian subtitle. One of the most commonly used movie streaming media in the world is Netflix. It is basically a movie streaming platform which offers popular movies, TV shows, and documentaries that users can watch over there. Here, the researcher is going to assess the Indonesian translation quality of Crazy Rich Asians movie subtitle using Waddington’s Model of TQA. The source of the data is from the Crazy Rich Asians movie from Netflix, the English script of the movie, and the Indonesian subtitle from Netflix. The result of this study is: (1) The accuracy in the transfer of English content in the Crazy Rich Asians movie subtitle from Netflix according to Waddington’s Model of TQA is an almost complete transfer, with 29 out of 50 data obtained. (2) Then, the quality of expression in Indonesian is read like a piece originally written in Indonesian with only a minor grammatical problem. (3) The degree of the task completion from English to Indonesian is considered almost completely successful. (4) Therefore, the quality of Netflix’s Indonesian subtitle in the Crazy Rich Asians movie is an almost completely successful translation. According to Waddington’s Model of TQA, it is placed in the Level 4.

Disadari atau tidak, bidang penerjemahan memiliki pengaruh dalam industri perfilman. Dalam subtitle film misalnya, terdapat proses penerjemahan. Orang-orang dari Indonesia dapat menonton film atau serial Barat, Korea, India dan memahami apa yang mereka katakan dengan bantuan subtitle bahasa Indonesia. Salah satu media streaming film yang paling umum digunakan di dunia adalah Netflix. Netflix merupakan platform streaming film yang menawarkan film, acara TV, dan dokumenter populer yang dapat ditonton penggunanya. Disini peneliti akan menilai kualitas terjemahan subtitle bahasa Indonesia dari film Crazy Rich Asians menggunakan Model PKT dari Waddington. Sumber datanya dari film Crazy Rich Asians dari Netflix, naskah film berbahasa Inggris, dan subtitle bahasa Indonesia dari Netflix. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) Akurasi transfer konten berbahasa Inggris pada subtitle film Crazy Rich Asians dari Netflix menurut Model PKT Waddington adalah transfer yang hampir sepenuhnya berhasil dengan 29 dari 50 data yang diperoleh. (2) Kemudian, kualitas ungkapan dalam bahasa Indonesia dibaca seperti karya aslinya yang ditulis dalam bahasa Indonesia dengan sedikit masalah tata bahasa. (3) Tingkat penyelesaian tugas dari bahasa Inggris ke bahasa Indonesia dianggap hampir sepenuhnya berhasil. (4) Oleh karena itu, kualitas terjemahan subtitle Indonesia dalam film Crazy Rich Asians di Netflix adalah terjemahan yang hampir sepenuhnya berhasil. Menurut Model PKT Waddington, ini ditempatkan di Tingkat 4.
