This study aims to identify bacteria originating from the northern Sumatran terasi. This research was conducted from March to July 2020 at the Microbiology and Genetics Laboratories, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of North Sumatra. Bacteria were isolated used NA (Nutrient Agar) + NaCl (sodium chloride) 10% medium and incubated at 35o for 72 hours. Proteolytic and chitinolytic screening of bacteria used skim milk media and chitin media followed by molecular identification of bacteria, a total of 7 bacterial isolates were obtained with isolate codes WN1, WN2, WN3, WN4, WN5, WN6, WN7, with different colony and cell morphological characteristics. Identification of bacteria using primers 27f and 1495R showed that WN1 had 99% genetic similarity to Staphylococcus arlettae strain ATCC 43957, WN2 isolates had 100% genetic similarity to Virgibacillus halodenitrificans strain ATCC 49067, WN3 had 99% genetic similarity to Oceanobacillus oncorhychi strain 20AG. WN4 has 100% genetic similarity to Salinicoccus siamensis strain PN1-2, WN5 has 100% genetic similarity to Virgibacillus dokdonensis strain DSW-10, WN6 has 99% genetic similarity to Virgibacillus massiliensis strain Vm-5, WN7 has 99% genetic similarity to Virgibacillus kapii strain KN3-8-4. Based on the research conducted, it was found that 4 genera of bacteria were successfully identified, which are found in terasi Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi bakteri yang berasal dari terasi Sumatera bagian Utara. Penelitian ini dilakukan dari bulan Maret hingga Juli 2020 di Laboratorium Mikrobiologi dan Laboratorium Genetika, Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Bakteri diisolasi menggunakan media NA (Nutrien Agar)+NaCl (Natrium klorida) 10% dan diinkubasi dengan suhu 35o C selama 72 jam. Penapisan bakteri proteolitik dan kitinolitik menggunakan media skim milk dan media kitin, identifikasi bakteri secara molekuler. Sebanyak 7 isolat bakteri diperoleh dengan kode isolat WN1, WN2, WN3, WN4, WN5, WN6, WN7, dengan karakteristik morfologi koloni dan sel yang berbeda-beda. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan didapatkan 4 genus bakteri yang berhasil diidentifkasi yang umunnya terdapat pada terasi.
