    Keutuhan Permukaan Baja AISI 4140 pada Pemesinan Laju Tinggi, Keras dan Kering Menggunakan Pahat CBN

    Abstract
    This study is focused on the surface integrity of AISI 4140 alloy which has the hardness of -55 HRC worked on the turning process under high, hard, and dry speed which was examined experimentally. Data collecting method used in this study is the CCF (Cubic Center Face) method. The impact of the velocity of cutting, the feeding rate, the depth of cutting on the surface roughness (Ra) and on the surface topography; that is, surface feature (lay) and surface defects (Defect) which occur on the surface of the object will be studied. The average value of the smallest Ra = 0.97 μm; that is, at the velocity of cutting (V) = 200 m/min, at the feeding rate (f) = 0.1 mm/put, and the depth of feeding (a) = 0.3 mm. The average value of the largest Ra = 2.09 μm; that is, at the velocity of cutting (V) = 225 mm/min, at the feeding rate (f) = 0.1 mm/put, and at the depth of feeding (a) = 0.7 mm. The topography surface feature (lay) on the surface of the object shows that the lay has direction pattern which is paralleled with the velocity of cutting (V); whereas the topography of surface defect has four types of defect; namely, feed mark defect, the forming of chip layer, tearing surface, and dirt (microchip). The recommended cutting condition for the cutting of metal ASIDSI 4140 which has the hardness of 55 HRC with CBN chisel in the high and dry speed of machinery condition is the cutting condition of minimum magnitude level.
     
    Penelitian ini terfokus pada keutuhan permukaan (surface integrity) logam paduan AISI 4140 berkekerasan ~ 55 HRC yang dikerjakan dibawah proses pembubutan laju tinggi, keras dan kering yang dikaji secara eksperimen. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah metode CCF (Cubic Center Face). Dampak kecepatan potong, laju pemakanan dan kedalaman potong terhadap kekasaran permukaan (Ra) dan terhadap topografi permukaan yaitu corak permukaan (lay) dan cacat permukaan (defect) yang terjadi pada permukaan benda termesin akan diteliti . Nilai Ra rata-rata terkecil didapat = 0,97 μm yaitu pada kecepatan potong (V) = 200 m/min, laju pemakanan (f) = 0,1 mm/put dan kedalaman pemakanan (a) = 0,3 mm. Nilai Ra rata-rata terbesar didapat = 2,09 μm yaitu pada kecepatan potong (V) = 225 m/min, laju pemakanan (f) = 0,1 mm/put dan kedalaman pemakanan (a) = 0,7 mm. Topografi corak permukaan (lay) dari permukaan benda termesin memperlihatkan bahwa lay yang ditemukan memiliki pola arah yang sejajar dengan kecepatan potong (V) dan tegak lurus dengan kecepatan pemakanan (Vf). Sedangkan topografi cacat permukaan (defect) yang ditemukan ada empat jenis cacat yaitu cacat feed mark, , pembentukan lapisan chip, tearing surface dan kotoran (microchip). Kondisi pemotongan yang direkomendasikan untuk pemotongan logam AISI 4140 yang berkekerasan ~ 55 HRC dengan pahat CBN dengan kondisi pemesinan laju tinggi dan kering adalah pada kondisi pemotongan tingkat magnitude minimum.
