dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT
The effects of methanol extract from the rhizome ginger (Zingeber officinale roscoe)
on strenuous exercise program was studied in plasma and gastrocnemius muscle
samples obtained from male Mus Musculus L mice. Methanol extract was given in
oral doses of 0,07 mg/g, 0,14 mg/g, and 0,28 mg/g of mice body weight before
exhaustive swimming exercise program, daily for a period of five days. The plasma
and gastrocnemius muscle samples from the mice were subjected to biochemical
analysis after exhausted swimming in the fifth day to determine the level of
malondialdehyde (MDA) of the plasma and gastrocnemius muscle. The
administration of 0,07 mg/g of ginger’s extract did not give any change of the
malondialdehyde level in the plasma as well as in the gastrocnemius muscle. On the
other scene, the administration of 0,14 mg/g of the ginger’s extract will reduce the
plasma level of malondialdehyde, but not statistically significant, and reduce the
level of malondialdehyde in gastrocnemius muscle significantly (p<0,05). While the
administration of 0,28 mg/g of ginger’s extract precisely increasing the level of
malondialdehyde, this condition probably caused by the transition of anti oxidant into
pro oxidant in the higher dose of ginger’s extract. In conclusion, the most effective
dose of methanol extract from Zingeber officinale Roscoe to reduce the level of
malondialdehyde is 0,14 mg/g.

Pengaruh pemberian ekstrak metanol rimpang jahe (Zingeber officinale Rosc.) telah
dipelajari pada sampel plasma dan otot gastroknemius mencit jantan Mus Musculus
L. Ekstrak metanol rimpang jahe diberikan secara oral dengan dosis 0,07mg/gBB,
0,14mg/gBB dan 0,28mg/gBB mencit sebelum berenang maksimal sampai lelah
setiap hari selama lima hari. Sampel plasma darah dan otot gastroknemius mencit
diambil segera setelah perlakuan renang maksimal selesai pada hari kelima, untuk
dilakukan pemeriksaan kadar malondialdehid plasma dan otot gastroknemius. Pada
pemberian 0,07mg/gBB mencit ekstrak metanol rimpang jahe, tidak mampu
menurunkan kadar MDA plasma dan otot gastroknemius setelah latihan fisik
maksimal. Sementara itu, pada pemberian dosis ekstrak metanol rimpang jahe sebesar
0,14mg/gBB dapat menurunkan kadar MDA plasma meskipun tidak signifikan, dan
juga dapat menurunkan kadar MDA otot gastroknemius yang secara statistik
signifikan (p<0,05). Sedangkan pada kelompok perlakuan yang mendapat ekstrak
metanol rimpang jahe paling besar yaitu 0,28mg/gBB malah terjadi peningkatan
kadar MDA yang mungkin disebabkan antioksidan berubah menjadi prooksidan pada
dosis yang terlalu tinggi. Kesimpulannya ekstrak metanol rimpang jahe dengan dosis
0,14mg/gBB ,paling efektif menurunkan kadar MDA plasma dan otot gastroknemius
mencit yang mendapat latihan fisik maksimal.
