Introduction: Nasal polyps is a chronic inflammatory disease of the nasal mucosa characterized by edematous mass which stemmed from the inflamed mucosa. L-5 in very large quantities in nasal polyps showed that IL-5 has an important role in the pathophysiology of nasal polyps. Corticosteroids decrease the expression and production of cytokines such as IL-5, which resulted in a reduced number of eosinophils. Corticosteroids have anti-inflammatory effects are widespread. Objective: To investigate the effect of fluticasone furoate on the expression of IL-5 Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental design analytic (test before and after treatment). Data were taken from all patients with nasal polyps who came for treatment to subsection Rinologi Department / SMF ENT-ORL-HNS Adam Malik Hospital in April 2014 to December 2014 and get therapy of fluticasone furoate nasal spray for 4 weeks. Purpose: Patients with male sex as much as 14 (77.8%) patients, while as many as four women (22.2%) patients. The age of majority in the age group 40 years were 13 (72.2%) patients. Expression of IL-5 in nasal polyps before therapy by 10 (55.6%) patients with positive expression / over-expression while 8 (44.4%) patients with negative expression. Expression of IL-5 in nasal polyps after treatment by 12 (66.7%) patients with negative expression while 6 (33.3%) patients with positive expression/over-expression. The results of the expression of IL-5 differences before and after therapy found no significant correlation. Conclusion: In this study found no statistical test of significant difference. on the expression of IL-5 in nasal polyps before and after treatment of fluticasone furoate.
