    Peningkatan Kinerja Jaringan Wlan dengan Load Balancing Menggunakan Teknologi Agent

    Abstract
    ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to develop mechanism of load balancing for the Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). so that it can improve the performance of the network. Load balancing has been selected for it is a promising and well known technology in distributed system area. The load balancing mechanism has been implemented through the least connections algorithm. That is dividing the traffic based on the equality of the number of connections in all areas. The algorithm is operated by software agent. The study has gone through the following steps: designing system and selecting algorithm, observing the existing WLAN network, collecting data that is needed for the study and building a simulated system using the network simulator OPNET® 14.5. The result of the simulation, shows that every zone that is driven by the load balancing mechanism experiences a balance index (β) of 1.05. This indicates that the condition of the traffic in every zone is balanced. Additionally the number of client in balanced zones is 92% of the total number of existing clients.     ABSTRAK Penelitian ini menghasilkan suatu mekanisme keseimbangan beban (load balancing) pada jaringan WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) yang bertujuan untuk memberikan peningkatan kinerja pada jaringan tersebut. Load balancing dipilih karena merupakan suatu teknologi yang menjanjikan dan telah dikenal dalam sistem terdistribusi. Load balancing dijalankan dengan least connections algorithm yaitu algoritma yang membagi beban berdasarkan jumlah koneksi yang paling kecil. Berfungsinya algoritma ini melalui penggunaan teknologi agent. Tahapan dalam penelitian ini meliputi perancangan sistem dan pemilihan algoritma, observasi terhadap jaringan WLAN yang eksis, pengumpulan sejumlah data yang terkait dengan variabel-variabel yang diperlukan, serta membangun simulasi melalui pemanfaatan aplikasi simulator jaringan OPNET® 14.5. Hasil dari simulasi menunjukkan bahwa setiap zona yang menerapkan load balancing mampu menghasilkan index keseimbangan (β) sebesar 1,05. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa kondisi trafik jaringan pada setiap zona berada dalam kondisi seimbang (balanced). Bukan hanya itu, prosentasi jumlah client yang berada pada zona seimbang sebesar 92% dari total jumlah client yang eksis. Kata Kunci : Load balancing, Least Connections Algorithm, Agent, OPNET® 14.5
