    Abstract
    This thesis entitled An Analysis of Word Formation Processes Used in Social Media focused on the using of word formation processes used in social media such as twitter and instagram.The aims of this thesis wereto classify and analyze the word formation process used in social media and also to find out the kinds of word formation processes the most dominant one.The writer used descriptive qualitative method, in which the data were words that contain word formation processes used in social media. The data were analyzedapplying the theory ofword formation processes by Hatch & Brown (1995), Katamba (1993), and O’Grady (1996). The result of this: there were 8 types ofword formation processeswere found in social media. They were borrowing, coinage, compounding, initialization and acronym, blending, clipping, inflection and derivation.In finding the most dominant type ofword formation processes, the writer used Bungin’sformula. The most dominant type ofword formation processes was inflection (28%) then followed by compounding (22%), initialization and acronym (22%), borrowing (12%), clipping (8%), coinage (4%), blending (2%) and derivation (2%). In social media, the writer found that inflection was the most dominant.
     
    Skripsi ini berjudul An Analysis of Word Formation Processes Used in Social Media berfokus pada analisis pembentukan kata yang digunakan di social media yaitu twitter dan instagram.Tujuan dari penulisan skripsiini adalah untuk memgklasifikasi and menganalisistipe-tipe dari proses pembentukan kata, kemudian menemukan proses pembentukan kata yang paling dominan di gunakan di social media. Penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan data berasal dari social media yang mengandung proses pembentukan kata. Penulis menganalis sebuah temuan dominant dengan menggunakan formula Bungin. Dari analisa skripsi ini, penulis menemukan8 proses dari pembentukan kata yang digunakan di dalam social media yaituborrowing, coinage, compounding, initialization and acronym, blending, clipping, inflection and derivation. Proses pembentukan kata yang paling dominanadalahinflection (28%) kemudian diikuti oleh compounding (22%), initialization and acronym (22%), borrowing (12%), clipping (8%), coinage (4%), blending (2%) and derivation (2%). Penulis menemukan penggunaan inflection yang paling dominan pada sosial media.
