    Pembuatan dan Karakterisasi serta Aplikasi Katalik Konverter untuk Filter Gas Buang Kenderaan Bermotor Berbahan Bakar Premium

    Abstract
    The fast growing of economic growth has given out the problems of air pollution that is emitted by the exhaust system of vehicle which decrease the quality of environment and in order to seek the alternative noble metal catalytic converter as its substitution, so that this research is done. Wire mesh catalytic converter has been made by coating titanium (IV) oxide and iron (II) oxide on it using dip coating method, the catalytic converter is installed in the vehicle exhaust system and can decrease the pollution successfully, by 2.67% - 42.42% CO, 0.07% - 5.93% CO2, and 1.95% - 27.61% HC. The characteristics of wire mesh catalytic converter that has been studied are density of 0.55 – 0.57 g/cm3, porous percentage of 66.27% - 69.11%, permeability of 67.7% - 92%, compression test at 1000 Kg provide the compression distance of 11 mm – 30 mm, XRD-diffract meter method shows the specifics of three peaks at the angle of 2θ = 25.3435º , 36.9821º and 48.0776º reveals the occurrence of Anatase form of TiO2 at the wire mesh catalytic converter surfaces and by the Scherer Equation, the particle size of 40.5 nm TiO2 is found and the observation of microstructure that uses scanning electron microscope shows a lot of pores.     Pertumbuhan ekonomi yang pesat membawa efek negatif bagi pencemaran udara yang berasal dari gas buang kenderaan bermotor yang menurunkan kualitas lingkungan hidup manusia dan untuk mencari material alternatif pengganti katalis konverter yang menggunakan logam mulia, maka dilakukan penelitian ini. Telah dilakukan pembuatan katalis konverter berbahan dasar kawat wire mesh yang dilapisi logam titanium (IV) oksida dan besi (II) oksida dengan metode dip coating. Katalis konverter tersebut dipasang pada knalpot kenderaan bermotor dan berhasil menurunkan polusi gas buang sebesar 2.67% - 42.42% CO, 0.07% - 5.93% CO2, dan 1.95% - 27.61% HC. Karakteristik yang diperoleh dari bahan katalis konverter yang telah diuji adalah massa jenis 0.55 – 0.57 g/cm3, porositas 66.27% - 69.11%, permeabilitas 67.7% - 92%, uji tekan pada 1000 Kg menghasilkan jarak penekanan 11 mm – 30 mm, pengujian XRD-diffractometer menghasilkan tiga puncak / peak tertinggi yang spesifik pada sudut 2θ = 25.3435º , 36.9821º dan 48.0776º menunjukkan adanya pembentukan lapisan TiO2 dalam bentuk kristal Anatase pada permukaan katalis konverter wire mesh, serta dengan bantuan persamaan Scherer diperoleh ukuran partikel TiO2 sebesar 40.5 nm, dan pengamatan struktur mikro TiO2 dengan scanning electron microscope menunjukkan porositas yang besar. Kata kunci : katalis konverter, wire mesh, titanium (IV) oksida, besi (II) oksida.
