The Use of Deixis in the Main Character’s Utterances of Kingsman: The Secret Service Movie

Abstract

This research entitled “The Use of Deixisin The Main Character’s utterances of Kingsman: The Secret Service Movie”. The problemsof this study are what types of deixis found in the main character’s utterances in this movie that performed by the main character?And how the deictic words are used by the main character in Kingsman: The Secret Service Movie? The objectives of this study due to classify types of deixis produced by the main character and to analyze how the diectic words used by the main character. The writer focuses this study only on the utterances of the main character that movie script provides as the data. The data are classified based on the theory of deixis of Levinson (1983). Based on Levinson’s theory, there are five categories of deixis, they are: Person Deixis, Time or Temporal Deixis, Place or Spatial Seixis, Discourse Deixis, and Social Deixis. According to Levinson’s theory also explains that there are two types of the use of deictic words that expressed by the speaker, they are: Gestural Useand Symbolic Use.The scripts are taken from the internet transcripts.fandom.com. The writer applies descriptive qualitative research method. In analyzing the data the writer uses some processes, and they are: organizing the data in gaining the script of the main character’s utterances, analyzing the data and classifying the data and the last process is giving conclusion based on the data analysis that have been summarized and organized.

Penelitian ini berjudul“The Use of Deixis in The Main Character’s utterances of Kingsman: The Secret Service Movie”. Rumusan masalah dari penelitian ini adalahApakah tipe-tipe deiksis yang ditemukan dalam ujaran yang disampaikan oleh tokoh utama dari film Kingsman:The Secret Servicedan Bagaimanakah kata-kata deiksis digunakan oleh tokoh utama dalam film Kingsman:The Secret Service. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengklasifikasikan tipe deixis yang terdapat dalam ujaran tokoh utama and untuk menganalisa bagaimana kata deiksis digunakan oleh tokoh utamayang terdapat dalam film Kingsman: The Secret Service ini. Penulis memfokuskan penelitian ini hanya pada ujaran-ujaran tokoh utama dalam skrip film yang dijadikan sebagai data. Data diklasifikasikan berdasarkan teori deiksis oleh Levinson (1983). Berdasarkan teori Levinson terdapat 5 kategori deiksis, yaitu: Deiksis Persona, Deiksis Waktu, Deiksis Tempat, Deiksis Diskursus dan Deiksis Soial. Berdasarkan teori Levinson juga menjelaskan dua tipe penggunaan kata deiksis yang dilakukan oleh penutur, yaitu: Penggunaan Gestur dan Penggunaan Simbolik. Naskah film diambil dari internet di website transcripts.fandom.com. Penulis menerapkan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Dalam menganalisa data penulis melakukan beberapa proses, yaitu: mengorganisir ujaran-ujaran tokoh utama, menganalisa data dan terakhhir mengklasifikasikan data dan proses yang terakhir adalah memberikan kesimpulan berdasarkan hasil analisis yang telah dirangkum dan disusun.
