An Analysis of Verb Phrase Found in the Selected Articles of Tempo Magazine

Abstract

The title of this thesis is "An Analysis of Verb Phrase Found in the Selected Articles of Tempo Magazine". This thesis discusses about the using of 3 verb phrase structure in sentences that found in four articles of Tempo magazine. It is written based on the writer's curiosity about how the writers use the verb phrase structure in their writing. In doing this thesis, the writer applies the literature studies by collecting books, and reading some thesis that relate to this research. The writer also uses the method of "quantitative descriptive" in analyzing the data. The writer discover, classify and quantify data to determine the structure of the verb phrase what is most often used in the writing political articles in the magazine Tempo. From the analysis, it was found tenses (simple present and simple past tense) 33.09%, and for the aspect (perfect, progressive, progressive perfect) and 10:18% for voice (active and passive voice) 56.72%. Therefore, I conclude that the voice is the most dominant verb phrase that used by Tempo`s writer.

Skripsi yang berjudul “An Analysis of Verb Phrase Found in the Selected Articles of Tempo Magazine”, membahas tentang penggunaan 3 struktur frase kata kerja dalam kalimat yang terdapat di 4 artikel majalah Tempo. Skripsi ini ditulis berdasarkan keingintahuan penulis tentang sejauh mana para penulis berita menggunakan struktur frase kata kerja pada tulisan mereka. Dalam mengerjakan skripsi ini, penulis menerapkan studi kepustakaan yakni dengan mengumpulkan buku-buku, dan skripsi-skripsi yang terkait dengan penelitian ini. Penulis juga menggunakan metode “descriptive quantitative” dalam melakukan analisis data. Penulis menemukan, mengklasifikasikan dan menghitung data untuk mengetahui struktur frase kata kerja apa yang paling banyak digunakan dalam penulisan artikel politik di majalah Tempo. Dari hasil analisa, ditemukan tenses ( simple present dan simple past tense) 33,09% , dan untuk aspek (perfect, progressive, perfect progressive) 10.18% dan untuk voice (active and passive voice) 56.72%. Maka dari itu voice merupakan jenis dari struktur frase kata kerja yang paling dominan yang digunakan oleh penulis majalah Tempo yaitu 56,72%.
