    Pemanfaatan Limbah Kulit Kakao dan Tanah Lempung sebagai Material Filter dalam pengolahan Air Sumur Menjadi Air Bersih

    Abstract
    The research has been conducted about utilization of cocoa rind waste and clay as filter material in the processing of deep well into clean water. Research conducted in two step. The first step was manufacture of filter and the second step was application of filter for deep well processing. The cocoa rind waste used as activated carbon mixed with clay in variation of composition activated carbon from cocoa rind : clay 85%:15%, 80%:20%, 75%:25%, 70%:30% and 65%:35%. Futhermore, the filter is burned in temperature 200oC, 230oC, 260oC, 290oC and 320oC with holding time about 30 minute. The sample filter have been burned, characterized the physical properties (water absorption, density, porosity), the mechanical properties (compressive strength) and microstructure. The result showed that composition activated carbon from cocoa rind : clay optimum 65%:35% with temperature 320oC have the highest water absorption 86%, density 0,264 gram/cm3, porosity 52,38%. While compressive strength optimum 0,0504 MPa was obtained at temperature 200oC. Filter with composition and temperatur optimum was applied for the processing deep well into clean water. The result showed deep well after filtered for the physical parameter obtained temperature 26,9o C, turbidity3,2 NTU, color 7 TCU,conductivity 338 μS/m and thenfor chemical of parameterobtainedpH6,7content of iron metal 1,0 mg/L. So that, the result of water has been filtered already meet water of quality standar No.416/Menkes/Per/IX/1990
     
    Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang pemanfaatan limbah kulit kakao dan tanah lempung sebagai material filter dalam pengolahan air sumur menjadi air bersih. Penelitian dilakukan dalam dua tahap. Tahap pertama pembuatan filter dan tahap kedua aplikasi filter untuk pengolahan air sumur. Limbah kulit kakao yang telah dijadikan arang aktif dicampur dengan tanah lempung dengan variasi komposisi arang aktif : tanah lempung 85%:15%, 80%:20%, 75%:25%, 70%:30% dan 65%:35%. Selanjutnya filter dibakar dengan suhu pembakaran 200oC, 230oC, 260oC, 290oC dan 320oC serta ditahan selama 30 menit. Sampel filter yang telah dibakar dikarakterisasi sifat fisis (daya serap air, densitas, porositas), sifat mekanik (kuat tekan) dan mikrostruktur. Hasil karakterisasi menunjukkan bahwa komposisi arang aktif kulit kakao dan tanah lempung yang optimum yaitu 65%:35% dengan suhu pembakaran 320oC memiliki nilai daya serap air sebesar 86%, nilai densitas sebesar 0,264 gram/cm3, nilai porositas sebesar 52,38%. Sedangkan nilai kuat tekan optimum sebesar 0,0504 MPa diperoleh pada suhu 200oC. Filter dengan komposisi dan suhuoptimum diaplikasikan untuk pengolahan air sumur menjadi air bersih. Hasil pengujian air sumur setelah difilter menunjukan untuk parameter fisika diperoleh suhu 26,9o C, kekeruhan sebesar 3,2 NTU, warnasebesar 7 TCU, daya hantar listrik (DHL) sebesar 338 μS/cm dan untuk parameter kimia meliputi : pH sebesar 6,7 dan kandungan logam besi (Fe) sebesar 1,0 mg/L sehingga hasil air yang telah difilter sudah memenuhi standarkualitas air bersih No.416/Menkes/Per/IX/1990.
