    Abstract
This study deals with the diversity and distribution of bivalve and its relations with the physical and chemical factors of water on the Mouth of Asahan River carried out Augst 2009. Establishment of sampling location for taking the sample is by Purposive random sampling method on 3 (three) stations. It took samples with 30 repetitions on each station using scoop. The bivalve sample as obtained then identified in the Laboratory of Natural and Environmental Resources Management,Mathematics and Nature Science Faculty of North Sumatra University. On laboratory analysis over parameter of physics and chemistry factors in water with the result relied on quality standard of sea water for marine biota as appointed by The State Minister on Environment under the Decision No. 51 of 2004 indicated that the water of Sungai Asahan’s mouth is classified properly for having survival on biota included bivalve. The result of study there are obtained Bivalve comprising of 4 ordo, 4 family and 13 genus such as Anadara sp1, Anadara sp2, Aequipecten, Ensis, Macoma, Marcia, Meretrix, Nutallia, Paphia, Perna, Placuna, Pinctada, and Ruditapes. The diversity index of Bivalve on Asahan River mouth is classified lower with its rate of 1,426 – 2,051, its equality index is classified high with rate of 0,886 – 0,993, while the similarities index (resemblance) genus bivalve as obtained on station 1 and station 2 are its resemblance with rate of 72,72%, between station 2 and station 3 with rate of 14,28% (not resembled) and between station 2 and station 3 with rate 14,28% (not resembled) and between station 1 and station 3 with rate 40% it is also not resembled. Further, its morista index (distribution) of each genus is run to group. The analysis result in Pearson correlation showed that the temperature, light penetration, light intensity, TDS, pH, salinity, DO, BOD5, and PO4 is correlated positive (+) or same direction over diversity bivalve while TSS, COD, its organic content and NO3 - is correlated negative (-) or be opponent over diversity bivalve, further TSS, DO, NO3 and the content of organic substrate is correlated positive (+) or be directive over distribution bivalve while the temperature, light intensity, light penetration, TDS, pH, salinity, BOD, COD, and PO4 is correlated negative (-) or be opponent over distribution bivalve.
