Materialism in George Eliot’s Novel Silas Marner

Abstract

This thesis titled Materialism in George Eliot's novel "Silas Marner". In this thesis are materialistic analysis contained in the novel Silas Marner, written by George Eliot. This analysis aims to explain the success of the material that makes the human being changed to the negative side of humanity so that the dissipation caused by materialistic in the novel. Where man is never satisfied of what they have. The method used in this paper is a descriptive analysis method that aims to describe the phenomenon of the novel Silas Marner materialism. This depiction includes interpretation then analyzed based on the existing data on the novel.

Skripsi ini berjudul Materialism in George Eliot’s novel “Silas Marner”. Di dalam skripsi ini terdapat analisis materialistis yang terdapat dalam novel Silas Marner yang ditulis oleh George Eliot. Analisis ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan tentang kesuksesan material yang membuat manusia menjadi berubah ke sisi negatif sehingga memudarnya rasa kemanusiaan yang diakibatkan oleh materialistis di dalam novel tersebut. Di mana manusia tidak pernah merasa puas akan apa yang dimilikinya.Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam penulisan skripsi ini adalah metode analisis deskriptif yang bertujuan menggambarkan fenomena materialisme dari novelSilas Marner. Penggambaran ini memuat interpretasi yang kemudian dianalisis berdasarkan data yang ada pada novel.
