Analisis Beberapa Faktor yang Mempengaruhi Permintaan Pariwisata Kota Medan

Abstract

The potential of tourism of one country has been evaluated. In this research, the factors that influence the demand of tourists from abroad in Medan are the numbers of tourists, expenditure of tourists, percapita income of tourists, and government policies in promoting the tourism. The analysis of this research is using the double logarithm natural demand function and it is preceded by Ordinary Least Square method. The data is from various publications such as Statistic Bureau of Indonesia, and Bank of Indonesia, during 1981 until 2001. The result of this research find that all variable are significantly influenced the demand of tourism of Medan except the policy government on tourism. The foreign tourists that come to Medan have different destinations. Most of Malaysian and Singapore go to Medan for business and vacations, while Netherlands and Taiwanese for vacation and visiting historic buildings. This research also finds that the tourist program of Indonesia Government is not very successful. It is suggested for all of tourism industries in Indonesia, tourism department of Indonesia and Indonesian people have to promote and back up the tourism of Indonesia so that tourism of Indonesia has a competitive advantage world wide.
