dc.description.abstractBackground: Nasal polyp is chronic inflammatory disease of the nasal and paranasal mucosa featuring inflammatory cell infiltration, tissue remodeling that includes extracellular matrix accumulation and fibrosis. Extracellular matrix comprises basal membrane and interstitial matrix, and is a complex structure that surrounds and supports the mucosal cells, and plays an important role in physiological changes of mucosal cells. MMP-9 can degrade almost all extracelluler matrix component. Purpose: To know expression of Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 on nasal polyp at RSUP H. Adam Malik, Medan. Methods: Descriptive study at RSUP H. Adam Malik, Medan on 33 nasal polyp cases since July 2013 until January 2015. The expression of MMP-9 was investigated in nasal polyp. Tissue samples were assessed via immunohistochemistry at Patologic Anatomi Departement USU Medical Faculty. Results: From 33 nasal polyp cases, the incidence of nasal polyp in males is 66,7%, the incidence of nasal polyp with age more than 40 is 60,6%, the most histopatologic type of polyp is type 1 (allergic polyp) 69,7%, the incidence of nasal polyp grade 2 is 54,5%. MMP-9 expression of nasal polyp is overexpressed 51,5%. MMP-9 overexpressed in allergic nasal polyp 39,4% and nasal polyp grade 3 MMP-9 overexpressed 33,3%. Conclusion: Expression of Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 was overexpressed in nasal polyp. Expression of Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 was significantly enhanced in allergic nasal polyp and nasal polyp stage 3.en_US
dc.description.abstractPendahuluan: Polip hidung merupakan penyakit inflamasi kronis pada mukosa hidung dan sinus paranasal dengan infiltrasi sel sel inflamasi, remodeling jaringan disertai akumulasi dan fibrosis matriks ekstra seluler. Matriks ekstraseluler terdiri dari membran basal dan matriks interstisial, merupakan struktur kompleks yang mengelilingi dan mendukung sel-sel mukosa, memainkan peran penting dalam perubahan fisiologis sel-sel mukosa. MMP-9 dapat mendegradasi hampir semua komponen matriks ekstraseluler. Tujuan: Mengetahui ekspresi MMP-9 pada polip hidung di RSUP H. Adam Malik, Medan. Metode: Penelitian deskriptif dilakukan di RSUP H. Adam Malik, Medan terhadap 33 kasus polip hidung sejak bulan Juli 2013 sampai Januari 2015. Untuk pemeriksaan imunohistokimia dilakukan di Departemen Patologi Anatomi FK USU. Hasil: Dari 33 kasus polip hidung, 66,7% terjadi pada laki laki, 60,6% terjadi pada kelompok usia ≥40 tahun, tipe histopatologi polip terbanyak adalah tipe 1 (allergic polyp) 69,7%, dijumpai polip dengan stadium 2 sebanyak 54,5%. Ekspresi MMP-9 pada polip hidung (overekspresi) positif 51,5%. Ekspresi MMP-9 positif pada polip hidung tipe 1(allergic polyp) sebanyak 39,4% dan pada polip hidung stadium 3 ekspresi MMP-9 positif sebanyak 33,3%. Kesimpulan : Didapatkan ekspresi MMP-9 positif pada polip hidung. Dijumpai ekspresi MMP-9 positif lebih banyak pada polip hidung tipe alergi dan pada polip hidung stadium 3.en_US
