    Abstract
    Background : Hand dermatitis was defined as dermatitis localized to the fingers or finger webs, backs of hands or palms, characterized by itching, erythema, vesicles and/or papules and scaling. Some evidences of research which conducted recently had represented that nickel contact dermatitis play a role in the occurrence of hand dermatitis. Objective : To analyse the relationship between contact dermatitis to nickel with the occurrence of hand dermatitis in salon workers at Kecamatan Medan Baru. Methods : This was a cross-sectional analyses study involving 51 subjects with history of contact dermatitis to nickel. History taking by anamneses and dermatological examination were conducted to all subjects. They were all patch tested with standard allergen nickel sulphate 0,5% in vaseline from European Baseline Series. Patch test results were read after 48 and 72 hours based on International Contact Dermatitis Research Group (ICDRG). Results were analysed by statistical analyses using Chi-square test. Results : Significant association were observed between contact dermatitis to nickel with the occurrence of hand dermatitis in salon workers (p-value = 0,005). Conclusion : There is a significant association between contact dermatitis to nickel with the occurrence of hand dermatitis in salon workers at Kecamatan Medan Baru.
