    Social Stratification Portrayed in Kevin Kwan’s China Rich Girlfriend and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby: A Comparative Literature.”

    Abstract
    This study contains a study of comparative literature which involves two literary works from two different nations with similar motifs, which is social stratification. The aim of this study is to find out how social stratification is portrayed in the two literary works and to find the similarities and differences of social stratification in both literary works using Social Stratifications’ theory by Lloyd Warner. The study also involves looking at the intrinsic elements to look at the similarities and differences found in the two literary works. In completing the analysis, the writer uses descriptive qualitative method which represents all the data in forms of words and sentences. The writer collects data from various sources including China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, relevant books, articles and journals to support the analysis. Based on the results of the analysis it can be concluded that the two literary works show similarities and differences about social stratification which occurs in both literary works. In Kwan’s China Rich Girlfriend, the writer find four different social stratification while in Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, the writer only find three social stratification.
     
    Skripsi ini berisi tentang studi sastra bandingan menggunakan dua karya sastra dari negara yang berbeda dengan motif yang sama, yaitu stratifikasi sosial. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana stratifikasi social terjadi dalam dua karya sastra tersebut dan menemukan persamaan dan perbedaan terkait masalah ini menggunakan teori stratifikasi sosial dari Lloyd Warner. Studi ini juga melihat unsur intrinsik untuk melihat persamaan dan perbedaan yang ditemukan didalam kedua karya sastra. Dalam menyelesaikan analisis ini, penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif karena semua data disampaikan dalam bentuk kata-kata dan kalimat. Penulis mengumpulkan data dari berbagai sumber termasuk novel China Rich Girlfriend oleh Kevin Kwan, The Great Gatsby oleh F. Scott Fitzgerald, buku, artikel dan jurnal yang berkaitan untuk mendukung analisis. Berdasarkan hasil analisis dapat disimpulkan bahwa kedua karya sastra menunjukkan persamaan dan perbedaan mengenai stratifikasi social yang terjadi di kedua karya sastra. Dari novel China Rich Girlfriend, penulis menemukan empat kelas sosial yang berdeda, sementara di novel The Great Gatsby, penulis menemukan tiga kelas sosial yang berbeda.
