    Abstract
Background: Cataract is a clouding that occurs in the lens of the eye, which in normal circumstances is clear. Cataract is one of the complications of diabetes mellitus. In type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with glycated hemoglobin levels (HbA1c) that high or uncontrolled was implicated at risk of cortical cataract and mixed cataract. Methods: An observational study with cross sectional study. The sample consisted of 41 eyes, where the study subjects suffering from cataracts with diabetes mellitus type 2. The data of HbA1c levels of at least 3 months taken from medical records were then examined morphological types of cataracts by using slit lamp based on LOCS III (Lens Opacties Classification System III) criteria. Results: Most types of cataract morphology with the mean value of HbA1c is 9,185 ± 2,289 were mixed cataracts and cortical cataract was 17 eyes (41.5%). From the test results value of correlation coefficient r= 0.916. This results indicate a very strong correlation between HbA1c with cataract morphology which is cortical and mixed cataract were found more frequent. Conclusion: There was a very strong association between HbA1c level with cataract morphology in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
