    A Critical Discourse Analysis of The SMH News Online About Indonesia Government Handling Covid-19

    Abstract
    This study aims to determine the sociocultural practice aspects of Norman Fairclough's CDA theory, namely The Realization of Sociocultural dimensions in the SMH online news about Indonesia government handling COVID-19 and The SMH represent Indonesia as a country that is struggling in handling COVID-19 in the online media text. This study focuses on sociocultural practice with Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) theory and uses a qualitative descriptive method. In analyzing the object of research in the form of power, relations and identity from news texts that discuss COVID-19 reported by The Sydney Morning Herald which is limited to five articles based on a predetermined time span. The results of this study indicate that the sociolinguistic aspect plays a major role in making the text of an article that has an impact on readers, especially the Indonesian people.
     
    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aspek sociocultural practice dari teori CDA Norman Fairclough yaitu The Realization of Sociocultural dimensions in the The SMH online news about Indonesia government handling COVID-19 and The SMH represent Indonesia as a country that is struggling in handling COVID-19 in the online media text. Penelitian ini berfokus sociocultural practice dengan teori Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) Norman Fairclough dan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Dalam menganalisis objek penelitian berupa power,relation dan identity dari teks berita yang membahas tentang COVID-19 yang di beritakan oleh The Sydney Morning Herald yang dibatasi menjadi lima artikel berdasarkan rentang waktu yang telah di tentukan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa aspek sociolinguistik berperan besar dalam pembuatan teks sebuah artikel yang berdampak pada pembaca terutama masyarakat Indonesia.
