An Analysis of Stylistic Devices on Børns “Electric Love”

Abstract

This thesis is entitled ‘An Analysis of Stylistic Devices on BØRNS ‘Electric Love’. This research discussed about the analysis of stylistic element or language devices which are used in the song. This research focused on Geoffrey Leech’s theory about stylistic analysis based on three main level of language, they are realization, form, and semantics. Realization is divided into phonology and graphology, form is divided into grammar and lexicon, and semantic is about meaning. However this study only focused on phonological and grammatical level. The data of this research were analyzed using qualitative descriptive method. The researcher used note taking as the instrument of the research to describe all the data. The finding showed that there are phonological and grammatical devices found in the ‘Electric Love’ song. In phonological level, the phonological devices which are used in the song is rhyme scheme, reverse rhyme, alliteration, assonance and consonance. Grammatical level is divided into morphological and syntactical level. In morphological level, the writer found that the song only contains suffix. In the syntactical level, the writer found that the songwriter used phrase, simple sentence and complex sentence with sentence patterns in creating the song. The writer also found that consonance is the phonological device that appear most often, and then it is followed by assonance, alliteration and reverse rhyme. In morphological level, suffix is the only morphological device used in the song. And the last in syntactical level, it is found that simple sentence is the most dominant sentence that is used by the songwriter.

Skripsi ini berjudul ‘ An Analysis of Stylistic Devices on BØRNS ‘Electric Love’. Penelitian ini membahas tentang analisa unsur stilistika atau alat bahasa yang ditemukan pada lagu ini. Penelitian ini berfokus pada teori Geoffrey Leech tentang analisa stilistika berdasarkan tiga tingkatan bahasa, yaitu realisasi, bentuk, dan semantic. Tingkat realisasi dibagi menjadi fonologi dan grapologi. Tingkatan bentuk dibagi menjadi morfologi dan leksikon. Tingkatan semantik yaitu berhubungan dengan makna. Namun, studi ini hanya fokus pada tingkatan fonologi dan gramatikal saja. Data pada penelitian ini dianalisis dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Peneliti menggunakan pencatatan sebagai instrument penelitian untuk mendeskripsikan semua data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perangkat fonologis dan gramatikal pada lagu ‘Electric Love’. Pada level fonologis, perangkat fonologis yang digunakan dalam lagu adalah rima, rima terbalik, aliterasi, asonansi dan konsonansi. Tingkat tata bahasa dibagi menjadi tingkat morfologis dan sintaksis. Secara morfologi, penulis menemukan bahwa lagu tersebut hanya mengandung sufiks. Pada tingkatan sintaksis, penulis menemukan bahwa penulis lagu menggunakan frase, kalimat tunggal dan kalimat kompleks dengan pola kalimat dalam pembuatan lagu. Penulis juga menemukan bahwa konsonansi merupakan perangkat fonologis yang paling sering muncul kemudian diikuti oleh asonansi, aliterasi dan rima terbalik. Pada tingkat morfologis, sufiks adalah satu-satunya perangkat morfologis yang digunakan dalam lagu. Dan yang terakhir pada tingkat sintaksis ditemukan bahwa kalimat tunggal merupakan kalimat yang paling dominan digunakan oleh penulis lagu.
