An Analysis of Perlocutionary Acts in “Rick And Morty” Series

Abstract

This study focuses on the types and functions of perlocutionary acts according to John. R. Searle's theory in the Rick and Morty series (Look Who's Purging Now) directed by Dominic Polcino and Pete Michels. Data were collected through movie scripts. This study tries to reveal the types and functions of perlocutionary acts in conversations between characters in this film. The purpose of this study was to determine the classification of perlocutionary acts performed by listeners in film dialogue and to determine the function of the listener's response. The methodology used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected by watching Rick and Morty series (Look Who's Purging Now) and reading the movie scripts. After that, the writer classified the types and functions of speech acts found in the dialogue based on Searle's theoretical framework. The results of this study indicate that there are five types of perlocutionary acts used in Rick and Morty series (Look Who's Purging Now). Based on the research results, the types are representative, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. The researcher found 70 data, there are representative consists of 39 data, directive consists of 16 data, commissive consists of 2 data, expressive consists of 12 data and declarative consists of 1 data. Furthermore, most of the perlocutionary acts expected by the speakers in this movie are fulfilled by the listeners, except in some cases where specific contextual factors do not allow the listeners to do what the speakers want.

Penelitian ini berfokus pada jenis dan fungsi tindak perlokusi menurut John. Teori R. Searle dalam serial Rick and Morty (Look Who's Purging Now) disutradarai oleh Dominic Polcino dan Pete Michels. Data dikumpulkan melalui skrip film. Penelitian ini mencoba mengungkap jenis dan fungsi tindak perlokusi dalam percakapan antar tokoh dalam film ini. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui klasifikasi tindak perlokusi yang dilakukan oleh pendengar dalam dialog film dan untuk mengetahui fungsi respon pendengar. Metodologi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan dengan menonton serial Rick and Morty (Look Who's Purging Now) dan membaca naskah film. Setelah itu, penulis mengklasifikasikan jenis dan fungsi tindak tutur yang terdapat dalam dialog berdasarkan kerangka teori Searle. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada lima jenis tindak perlokusi yang digunakan dalam serial Rick and Morty (Look Who's Purging Now). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, terdapat jenis representatif, direktif, komisif, ekspresif, dan deklaratif. Penulis menemukan 70 data, ada data representatif yang terdiri dari 39 data, direktif terdiri dari 16 data, komisif terdiri dari 2 data, ekspresif terdiri dari 12 data dan deklaratif terdiri dari 1 data. Selanjutnya, sebagian besar tindak perlokusi yang diharapkan oleh penutur dalam film ini dipenuhi oleh pendengar, kecuali dalam beberapa kasus di mana faktor kontekstual tertentu tidak memungkinkan pendengar melakukan apa yang diinginkan penutur.
