    Simelungen Rayat di Kibot dan Sarune pada Upacara Kematian Masyarakat Karo: Analisis Musikal, Fungsi, dan Perubahan - Kontinuitas

    Abstract
    The traditional ceremony of death is one of the ceremonies that are very important and contains noble values in the Karo community. The traditional ceremony of death in the Karo community has undergone changes in the accompanying media that uses the simelengun rayat repertoire in its former ceremony using gendang sarune switched to kibot and sarune where the function of the gendang singanaki, gendang singindungi, penganak,and gung is replaced by the digital form of simelungen rayat repertoire in the kibot, while as a melodic carrier still use sarune. This thesis is the result of the study of an acculturation of outside culture into Karo society in terms of its traditional arts. This research aims to find out, review, and explain simelungen rayat in kibot and sarune at the Karo death ceremony will be focused on three problems, namely (1) how the musical analysis of sarune melodies and the processing of digital forms of simelungen rayat repertoire; (2) how are the functions of simelungen rayat in kibot and sarune in Karo society; and (3) How does the change in development and continuity of the sarune drum turn to the kibot. This research is designed as a qualitative study with a cultural studies approach that is critical, interdisciplinary, and mulitimensional. These three problems were dissected using musical theory and mimesis, music function theory, and changecontinuity theory. Data collection is done through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation studies, and literature. The analytical method used is descriptive qualitative and interpretive. This thesis offers three things as a conclusion. First, musical analysis of sarune melodies and digital processing of simelungen rayat in kibots. Second, the functions of simelungen rayat to the people of Karo. Third, the change of acculturation of art from traditional to semimodern, the development from gendang sarune to kibot and continuity of simelungen rayat in kibot and sarune at Karo death ceremonies.
     
    Upacara adat kematian merupakan salah satu upacara yang sangat penting dan mengandung nilai-nilai luhur pada masyarakat Karo. Upacara adat kematian di masyarakat Karo telah mengalami perubahan dalam media pengiring yang menggunakan repertoar simelengun rayat dalam upacaranya yang dahulu menggunakan gendang sarune beralih ke kibot dan sarune dimana fungsi gendang singanaki, gendang singindungi, penganak, dan gung tergantikan oleh bentuk digital repertoar simelungen rayat di kibot, sementara sebagai pembawa melodi tetap menggunakan sarune. Tesis ini merupakan hasil kajian terhadap sebuah akulturasi budaya luar ke dalam masyarakat Karo dalam hal kesenian tradisionalnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui, mengkaji, dan menjelaskan simelungen rayat di kibot dan sarune pada upacara kematian masyarakat Karo akan difokuskan pada tiga permasalahan, yaitu (1) bagaimanakah analisis musikal melodi sarune dan pengolahan bentuk digital repertoar simelungen rayat; (2) bagaimanakah fungsi-fungsi simelungen rayat di kibot dan sarune di masyarakat Karo; dan (3) Bagaimanakah perubahan perkembangan dan kontinuitas gendang sarune beralih ke kibot. Penelitian ini dirancang sebagai sebuah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan kajian budaya yang bersifat kritis, interdisipliner, dan mulitimensional. Ketiga permasalahan tersebut dibedah menggunakan teori musikal dan mimesis, teori fungsi musik, dan teori perubahan-kontinuitas. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, studi dokumentasi, dan kepustakaan. Metode analisis yang digunakan deskriptif kualitatif dan interpretatif. Tesis ini menawarkan tiga hal sebagai simpulan. Pertama, analisis musikal melodi sarune dan pengolahan digital gendang simelungen rayat di kibot. Kedua, fungsi-fungsi simelungen rayat terhadap masyarakat Karo. Ketiga, perubahan akulturasi kesenian dari tradisional ke semimodern, perkembangan dari gendang sarune ke kibot dan kontinuitas simelungen rayat di kibot dan sarune pada upacara kematian masyarakat Karo.
