Fatherhood Portrayed In Nicholas Sparks’ Two By Two And Tere Liye’s Ayahku [Bukan] Pembohong: A Comparative Literature Analysis

Abstract

This thesis is entitled “Fatherhood Portrayed in Nicholas Sparks' Two by Two and Tere Liye's Ayahku [Bukan] Pembohong: A Comparative Literature Analysis”. This thesis comprises a study of comparative literature that encompasses two literary works from different nations with the same motifs, which is Fatherhood. This thesis is intending to find out how fatherhood is portrayed from both literary works, to find out how each character deal with their condition as a father, and to find out what are similarities and differences of fatherhood the main characters are dealing with by using the theory of Fatherhood by Nicholas Townsend. The two main characters of the literary works, Russell Green and Dam, are in a condition as a father. This study also includes the determination of the similarities and differences that have been found from both novels through intrinsic elements analysis. The writer uses the descriptive qualitative method to present all the data in the form of words and sentences. The writer collects all the data from the two literary works which are Two by Two by Nicholas Sparks and Ayahku [Bukan] Pembohong by Tere Liye. According to the results of the analysis, the two literary works indicate the similarities and differences relating to Fatherhood that are experienced by both main characters. Both main characters have performed the four facets to their children. The different cultures from the country they live in impact how fatherhood affects the characters.

Skripsi ini berjudul “Fatherhood Portrayed in Nicholas Sparks' Two by Two and Tere Liye's Ayahku [Bukan] Pembohong: A Comparative Literature Analysis”. Skripsi ini berisi tentang studi sastra bandingan yang meliputi dua karya sastra dari negara berbeda dengan motif yang sama, yaitu Kebapakan. Tujuan dari skripsi ini adalah untuk mencari tahu bagaiamana Kebapakaan digambarkan melalui kedua novel tersebut, bagaimana setiap karakter berurusan dengan situasi menjadi seorang bapak, dan apa saja perbedaan dan persamaan Kebapakaan dari kedua karakater melalui teori Kebapakaan oleh Nicholas Townsend. Kedua karakter dari novel, Russell Green dan Dam, sedang berada di kondisi sebagai seorang ayah. Studi ini juga melibatkan penentuan dalam persamaan dan perbedaan yang ditemukan dari kedua novel melalui analisis unsur intrinsic novel. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif yang mempresentasikan data dalam bentuk kata dan kalimat. Penulis mengumpulkan data dari kedua karya sastra yaitu Two by Two oleh Nicholas Sparks dan Ayahku [Bukan] Pembohong oleh Tere Liye. Berdasarkan hasil dari penelitian, kedua karya sastra tersebut menunjukkan persamaan dan perbedaan yang berkaitan dengan Kebapakaan yang dialami oleh kedua tokoh utama. Kedua karakter utama telah melakukan empat aspek kepada anak-anak mereka. Budaya yang berbeda dari negara tempat mereka tinggal mempengaruhi bagaimana peran ayah mempengaruhi karakter.
