    Sintesis Silikon Dioksida (SiO2) dari Debu Vulkanik Gunung Sinabung, TiO2 dan PVA sebagai Membran Komposit untuk Pengolahan Air dengan Metode Fotokatalis

    Abstract
    The study was conducted on the extraction of Mount Sinabung’s volcanic ash with the coprecipitation method to produce silicon dioxide (SiO2). SiO2 was used as a filler in photocatalyst composite membrans which consisting of poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) and titanium dioxide (TiO2). To make membran, the drop-casting method was used. The ratio between matrix and filler was 1:4 and weight percent ratio between TiO2 and SiO2 was (100:0);(80:20);(60:40) and (40:60). X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) result showed that the SiO2 in Mount Sinabung’s volcanic ash was 48.5% and after the extraction it became 99,1%. The tested samples using X-ray Diffractometer (XRD) showed that the samples consists of Quartz, Maghemite, and Cristobalite. The extraction of Mount Sinabung’s volcanic ash was obtained as amorphous in Quartz. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis indicated the shape of the Mount Sinabung’s volcanic ash as random, sharp, and jagged. The characterization using Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) indicated the Si-O-Si and Si-OH for siloxanes and silanols groups. When SiO2 and TiO2 were mixed, there was little agglomeration on the membran. The FTIR test indicated the formation of Si-O-Ti group because of the presence of SiO2 and TiO2. The membran has an Anatase structure and an amorphous peak of PVA. However, the SiO2 crystal structure was not observed in this study. The addition of SiO2 affected the increasing of tensile strength, but decreasing the swelling degree. In addition, this treatment made the membrane to be able to absorb heavy metals in river water. The addition of TiO2 and degradation time increased the degradation of the water river color.
     
    Penelitian mengenai ekstraksi Debu Vulkanik Gunung Sinabung dengan metode kopresipitasi untuk menghasilkan silikon dioksida (SiO2) telah dilakukan. SiO2 digunakan sebagai bahan pengisi pada membran komposit fotokatalis dengan matrik poly(vinyl) alcohol (PVA) dan titanium dioksida (TiO2). Membran dibuat menggunakan metode drop casting, dengan perbandingan antara matriks PVA dengan pengisi 1 : 4 dan perbandingan persen berat antara TiO2 dan SiO2 yaitu (100:0);(80:20);(60:40) dan (40:60). Pengujian X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) menunjukkan kandungan SiO2 dalam Debu Vulkanik Gunung Sinabung sebesar 48,5 % dan setelah diekstraksi didapatkan 99,1 %. Pengujian X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD) didapatkan struktur kristal dari Debu Vulkanik Gunung Sinabung yaitu Quartz, Maghemite dan Cristobalite sedangkan SiO2 hasil ekstraksi mempunyai struktur kristal Quartz yang bersifat amorf. Pengamatan menggunakan Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) bentuk Debu Vulkanik Gunung Sinabung terlihat acak tajam dan bergerigi. Pengujian menggunakan Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) teramati gugus Si-O-Si dan Si-OH yang berupa gugus dari siloksan dan silanol. Partikel SiO2 dan TiO2 terlihat merata dan ada sedikit terjadi aglomerisasi pada membran. Pada pengujian FTIR teramati gugus Si-O-Ti yang terbentuk karena ikatan antara SiO2 dan TiO2. Membran memiliki struktur kristal Anatase dan puncak amorf dari PVA sedangkan struktur kristal SiO2 tidak teramati. Dengan penambahan SiO2 membuat kuat tarik naik dan menurunkan derajat swelling serta mampu mengabsorpsi logam berat pada air sungai. Sementara pengaruh penambahan TiO2 dan lamanya waktu degradasi meningkatkan degradasi warna dari air sungai.
