    Abstract
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a global health crisis around the world. Until now, only a few studies have been conducted and few protective factors can play a role in infection with the SARS COV-2 virus. Vitamin D is said to have an important role in reducing the risk of COVID-19 infection and other acute respiratory infections in a person. In the case of SARS – COV – 2 infection, vitamin D is said to suppress viral replication directly, and is also effective in enhancing anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory processes in the body. Objective: To determine the relationship between vitamin D levels and the severity of COVID-19 patients at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan. Hypothesis: There is a relationship between vitamin D levels and the severity of COVID-19 patients at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan. Methods: The research was conducted at the Clinical Pathology Laboratory, H. Adam Malik Hospital, Medan. Samples were collected by consecutive sampling on patients diagnosed with COVID-19 at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan from November 2021 to March 2022 who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 34 patients were divided into three groups, namely the COVID- 19 patient group with moderate, severe and critical degrees. Results: By using the Kruskal Wallis test to assess the relationship between vitamin D levels and the severity of COVID-19 patients at Haji Adam Malik Hospital Medan, the p value = 0.467. This shows that there is no significant relationship between vitamin D levels and the severity of COVID-19 patients at Haji Adam Malik Hospital in Medan. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between vitamin D levels and the severity of COVID-19 patients.
