Perempuan dan Melajang: Pengalaman Perempuan tentang Status Lajangnya di Kota Medan

Abstract

Single women often get negative stereotype from society because their maritas status as asingle. Single women seen as a deviant because they did not married like most of people. Stigma and negative stereotype is caused their gender status as a women. Women constructed as second class (domestic area), that is why women get succeed when she get married. Women have higher risk to get stigma and negative stereotype because their status that a men. This study to explore single women’s experiences. By qualitative method, this study interviewing five single never-married women aged over 30 years old. The informans come from different social economic class, education and etnic. The result is single women often get negative streotype as spinster. singel women also asked why they did not get married and when they wil get married. Single women’s experience show that women have limited right to choose, even for privat this like marriage.
