dc.description.abstract | lntroduction : Dry eye syndrome is a multifactorial disease which is
marked by lipid, aquous, and mucin defficiency. Treatment for dry eye
syndrome patient usually use artificial tear containing NaCl-KCl. ln chronic
condition, corticosteroid give better performance to increase goblet cell
density, mucin quality and improve mild-severe dry eye syndrome.
Methods ; This is experimental study with single blind clinical trial. Sixty
patients diabetes melitus patient lype 2 are appropriate with inclusion and
exclusion criteria involve as the sample, then undergo schirmer land
ferning test. They were randomly assigned to fluorometholon or Nacl
treatment group. Both of these groups are given the same dosage (4xgtt l)
then be evaluated in day 0,14 and 30.
Result : After 30 days treatment, schirmer I and ferning of NaCl group
improved about 23.3% whereas the group that receive fluorometholon
0.1% improves about 60%. Statistically, fluorometholon 0.1% are
significantly effective in improving ocular surface (P=0.016).
Conclution : Treatment using topical 0.1% fluorometholon provided faster
improvement in ocular surface disease for diabetic mellitus type 2 patients
with dry eye compared with topical NaCl-KCl. | en_US |
