dc.description.abstract | The objectives of this study are (1) to describe translation techniques in translating words, phrases, clauses, and sentences in abnormal psychology text, (2) to describe translation ideologies in translating words, phrases, clauses, and sentennces in abnormal psychology text. It uses descriptive-qualitatif rcsearch on embedded-case study and is oriented to translation product. The research data comprises of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences of "Psychology Abnormal' and its translation in bahasa Indonesia. The research data were collected with document analysis, and analyzed using an interactive data analysis technique. Findings of this study show the followings. First, seven translation techniques were used to tanslate Abnorrnal Psychology text. These include literal, addition, modulation, paraphrase, pure borrowing, replacement and deletion techniques. On the basis of the frequent use of each of the translation techniques, literal appears to be in the first rank (54) followed by addition (18), modulation (11), paraphrase (6), pure borrowing (5), replacement (4), and deletion techniques (2). Second, theoretically, literal, and pure borrowing are oriented to source language while addition, modulation, paraphrase, replacement and deletion are oriented to target language. It means that the translator tended to choose literal, faithful, and semantic translation methods. Third, the use of translation techniques and the selection of translation methods tend to be based on the adoption of the foreignization ideology in translating the source text. | en_US |
