Manfaat Lansoprazol sebagai Pengobatan Sakit Perut Berulang pada Remaja

Abstract

Background Recurrent abdominal pain is common among adolescents. Absenteeism from school and lower quality of life were associated with the severity of symptoms. Lansoprazole is assumed to be one of alternative treatment in recurrent abdominal pain. Objective To investigate the effectiveness of lansoprazole as a treatment of recurrent abdominal pain among adolescent. Methods We conducted a randomized, double blind, clinical trial on August 2009 until October 2009. Participants were divided in two groups with simple randomization, each group was given 30 mg of lansoprazole or placebo for 14 days. Pain frequency was measured in abdominal pain episode per month, duration was measured in minute and pain intensity was measured by Pain rating scale. Results One hundred sixteenth recurrent abdominal pain patients were enrolled to the study, with simple randomization divided in two group with each group was fifty eight patients. There were no statistically significant difference on the frequency before and after treatment P=0.083, Cl 95% (-0.0331-0.021), and also frequency, duration, and degree of abdominal pain at baseline and after 1,2 and 3 month treatment between groups (P>0.05). Conclusion Lansoprazole is not more effective than placebo as the treatment of recurrent abdominal pain among adolescents.
