Background: Nephrotic syndrome is a kidney disease which common
happen to children in Indonesian. In nephrotic syndrome, antibiotic and
steroid could decrease mortality this disease in drastis. Meanwhile using
kortikosteroid could causes eye disorder that is increasing of intra ocular
pressure.
Objective: The purposes of this research is to evaluate the intra ocular
pressure effects of using prednisone in children with nephrotic syndrome.
Method: This research using prospective study. The intra ocular pressure
of 20 children with nephrotic syndrome were measured in three times. The
first measure before using prednisone therapy. The second measure after
of prednison therapy that is lourth -in the first week with 2 mg/kg/day and
the last examination fourth in the second week with 1,5 mg/kg of
alternating day.
Result: There is no correlation between elevation of intra ocular pressure
with age and dosage of prednisone in nephrotic syndrome who doing
prednisone therapy. However there is correlation between elevation of
intra ocular pressure with usage of prednisone in nephrotic syndrome (t =
0,031 with p< 0,05).
Conclusion: Effect of prednisone for long periods can affect the elevation
of intra ocular pressure.
