Background: Bacterial vaginosis is a polymicrobial syndrome caused by the
replacement of lactobacillus Spp with anaerobic bacteria and the others bacteria BVBLUE test (Gryphus Diagnostics) is a chromogenic diagnostic test based on the increase of sialidase enzime on the specimen of vaginal discharge. The characteristics of patients are important to find out the description of BV disease. Objective: To find out the characteristics of patients and proportion of BV at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan. Method: A descriptive study with cross-sectional designed involved 100 women with the complaints of abnormal vaginal discharge. Every subject of the study underwent venereology check up & BVBLUE test,
Result: Of the one 100 women with complaints of abnormal vaginal discharge, 36 were suffering from BV. The highest group was found in women of 3l-40 years old (47,2%), Batak ethnic group (75,0%), high school graduates (38,9%), housewives (55,6%), married women (94,4%), never used contraceptives (36,1%), having sexual intercourse with the frequency 14 times per month (55,5%). Conclusion: Based on BVBLUE test, the proportion of BV was 36%.
