    Abstract
Background : One of the common causes of bacterial infection derived from the use of equipment, incorrect aseptic technique, or antiseptic solutions. The common antiseptic that is used in central venous catheterization is Chlorhexidine 2% and Povidone Iodine 10%. The effectivity of these antiseptic are different in some studies, which has effect on the CRBSI incidence. Objective : To achieve optimal antiseptic in order to reduce the bacterial density and CRBSI incidence Method : This single blinded Analitic Cohort Study Design included 40 ICU patients RSUP HAM which is divided into two groups; group A with Chlorhexidine 2% -Alcohol 70% and group B with Povidone iodine 10% -Alcohol 70%. The bacteries were swabed using a sterile sticks, then divided it into pre test - post test control group. The t-test analysis was used to compare the bacterial density from each group before and after antiseptic administration. Whereas, to compare the decline the bacterial density (antiseptic response), we used t-pair test analysis. Confidence interval: 95% with p value< 0,05 is considered statistically significant. Results : The decrease in the bacterial density occurred in group A, mean 99,87% (SB=0,28%), while in group B, mean 98,83% (SB=l,86%) with p value< 0,001. Conclusions : Chlorhexidine 2% - Alcohol 70% is more effective to reduce bacterial density and CRBSI incidence, compare to Povidone Iodine 10% - Alcohol 70%.
