This study is intended to analyze the semiotics of sea offerings ritual ceremony at Jaring Halus. This ceremony is conducted to give offerings to the "sea spirit" that are believed by the community to be able to bring benefit or disaster to them. The data for this study were obtained through library research and interviews. Using the descriptive method, this study is based on the previous studies on social semiotics done by Haliday (1992) and Saragih (2006), semiotics of communication done by Peirce (1839-1914) and the elements of semiology done by Barthes (1915- 1980). The findings of this study on the sea offering ritual ceremony at Jaring Halus are that the semiotics on the offering materials and in the text of its magic spells have the context of reading the magic spell, the field, tenor and mode, genre, ideology, implication in development, the ERC system of the word found in the "mantra" (magic spell). The previous studies conducted on this topic are Magis Speel and Ritual Ceremony of Malay Community on the East Coastal Area of North Sumatra Utara by Syaifuddin (2005) and ritual Meaning of Sea Offering in Langkat District by Dicky (2003).en_US
