Analisis Terjemahan Terminologi Budaya pada Novel Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows dan Harry Potter dan Relikui Kematian

Abstract

This thesis deals with An Analysis of Cultural Terminologies Translation in the Novel of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and the Indonesian version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. There are two novels (as products), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and the Indonesian version as the source of data in this analysis. It can be identified that the terminologies used in the novel are mostly related to cultural terminologies. This study aims at identifying the cultural terminologies, translation method, and translation shifts in the novels. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research and the theoretical framework used for the method analysis is based primarily on the theories put forward by Vinay and Jean. In general, the research findings show that the method of borrowing is most preferred by the translators of the various issues of the novel. The theoretical framework used for the shifts analysis is based on the theories of Catford. Structural shift is the most founded in the novel. Based on the analysis, the result as following: There are 87 of cultural terminologies. There are 10 terminologies related to ecology (11,49%), terminologies of material/food are 27 (31,03%), terminologies of social cultural are 2 (2,29%), terminologies of of organization/tradition are 46 (52,87%), terminologies of custome and gesture are 2 (2,29%). The translation method used by the translator are; borrowing as many as 41 (47,12%), calque as many as 25 (28,73%),literal as many as 20 (22,98%), equivalence as many as 1 (1,14%). There are 31 shifts identified in cultural terminologies. The shifts consist of structural shift as many as 24 (77,41%, unit shifts as many as 6 (19,35%), intra-system as many as 1(3,22%).
