Tradisi Lisan Sikambang pada Masyarakat Pesisir Sibolga

Abstract

This study is entitled "Sikambang Oral Tradition of the Coastal Society in Sibolga. " The objectives of this study are : 1. to describe the context of situation, culture and language in Sikambang oral tradition, 2. to find out the local wisdom of Sikambang oral tradition. The theory used in this study was Systemic Functional Linguistic theory which focused on the register, genre and language contexts. The methods of this study were qualitative and ethnographic method which were conducted by direct observation and interview the informants. The results of this study showed that the context of situation consists of 23 fields, tenors and modes. The contexts of culture is apart of context of situation with 23 generic structures that had been oriented toward the purpose such as an entertainment and advice to all audiences who presented in that situation and the performance of TLS. The language context consists of Statement, Question, Command and Offer. It also consists of action and reaction of language user such as ephitet, mental process, modality ,eufemism dan connotative meanings. In the text of TLS, there contained various meanings that are educationing, entertaining, life struggling, hard working, self awareness and love and affection. The underlying philosophy of local wisdom in TLS is Islam religion which realized the ethics and esthetics elements of values, norms and culture of the multiethnic and multireligion society of Sibolga.
