dc.description.abstractMUHAMMAD ADLI RESYA : Manufacture of Activated Carbon Using Palm Stem (Elaeis gunensis jacq), supervised by SAIPUL BAHRI DAULAY and AINUN ROHANAH. Some research proved that activated carbon could be made from organic materials that have very high carbon percentage. Biomass material from palm plant can be used. The existing research of activated carbon from palm tree was limited of palm shell. In fact, there are many part of palm tree can be useful, like palm stem. Indonesia has been the largest palm plant country in the world with 6.700.000 ha areas in 2008. Palm stem has been abundant and can be used as an alternative material to make its value higher. The research for preparation of activated carbon from palm stem that had the best result was using by NaOH 0,2 M, activator wite 100 mesh and activation period of 24 hours. In industrial process, activate with carbon is used for deodorizing, adsorbs taste, colours and organic contaminant. Testing for active carbon in this research was based on activated carbon quality standard Standar Nasional Indonesia No 06 – 3730- 1995.en_US
