Mangrove forest along Serapuh river areas in Tanjung Pura Regency,
Langkat District were function as habitat the mangrove mud scrab
(Scylla spp.). However, cause the conversion of land became oil palm plantation
and aquaculture area impact to reduced of distribution mud crab.The aims of this
study are to measure diversity and abundance of mud crab (Scylla spp.) in the
mangrove forest along Serapuh river areas. This research was started at
February-March 2010 in Mangrove forest along Serapuh river areas in Tanjung
Pura Regency, Langkat district. Defined seven stations and devided into two sub stations.
The measurement Results of Physical-Chemical Parameters of Water and
Substrate on ther mangrove forest along Serapuh river area showed: the average
water temperature ranged from 28.00 to 29.00 ◦ C, the average water pH ranged
from 6.80 to 7.00, average pH of substrate ranged from 4.90 to 5.40, the average
water salinity ranged from 15.00 to 22.30 ‰, the average salinity of substrate
ranged from 18.50 to 19.50 ‰, and average depth of water about 13 0.10 to 42.
50cm. Substrate bottom waters in this region are classified in terkstur mud. The
highest density of mangrove species at station III pohonadalah level of 1200-1500
ind / ha. Average weight of litter at each station ranged from 39.86 to 73.70
gr/m2
.
The results showed that the Scylla spp. Found two types,thre were
S.serrata and S. oceanica. Abundanceof mud crab at all stations ranged from
41.67 to 241.67 ind / ha. The distribution pattern of mud crabs were classified to
clustered distribution. Scylla serrata foumd abundance on the back and less in
front of the waterfront. Scylla oceanica found abundance infront of waterfront
and less behind the mangrove areas. The result of measurement also found that
the female mud crab abundance at each station
