Pola Pengasuhan dan Pendidikan Karakter Anak pada Keluarga Nelayan di Desa Kuala Lama Kecamatan Pantai Cermin Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai

Abstract

Family is a social institution which fimctions as a place to create a peaceful, safe, and prosperous life, have lineage with love and affection among the members. Family shapes a generation. Therefore, the foundation of a family must be strong in order to create tough, qualified, and dignified generations. Therefore, the research on parenting style and child character education character in fisherman's family is importan.t This research is carried out at Kuala lama village, Serdang Bedagai regency. The method of this study is descriptive qualitative supported by quantitative method namely questionnaire distribution. Data collection technique is field research namely observation, interview with 15 informants consisting of fishermen, individuals and employers, and the distribution of questionnaire to 53 respondents who are 30 of them are fishermen. 15 respondents are individual fishermen, and 8 respondents are employers. The result of this research shows that authoritative parenting is found in the individual fishermen and some of the fishermen employers. Meanwhile, labor fishermen do not apply authoritative parenting. Both labor fishermen and fishermen employers apply democratic parenting to their children. Character education, as an effort to grow the values of mutual cooperation, integrity, nationalism, and religion, has been implemented well. Parents can act as teacher, companion, and advisor to their children. However, some of them do not specifically direct their children's talent and skills.
