    Abstract
This study describes a kind of kinship of Karo ethnic and the objective of this centered on the division of roles and positions of the Karo ethnic kinship system that regulates the social life of Karo people through Rakut Sitelu. The writing method used in this discussion was using descriptive qualitative research from the books, internet and the Karonese community. Culture is one of the most important and greatest elements in human life with a way of life that develops and is shared by a group of people and is passed down from generation to generation. Rakut Sitelu is one of the elements in the Sangkep Nggeluh concept whose function is to determine a person's position in social and cultured into three categories, namely Sukut, Kalimbubu, and Anak Beru. Sukut is the party that hosts in a traditional ceremony as well as rituals, kalimbubu is a party that is highly respected because it is considered a representative of Dibata (God) on earth the giver of tendons and blood, while Anak Beru is the one who does the work Sukut (Sembuyak/Senina) in traditional ceremonies and rituals. But in the Rakut Sitelu system that position will change through the ertutur (introduction of Merga) process so that there is no fixed position and caste in society Karo. As for the position of a family in a certain wedding ceremony is different from other wedding ceremonies and their roles are also different. Rakut Sitelu reflect significantly the harmony and stability of the Karonese family. The function of Rakut Sitelu are same for each adat ceremony. Appreciating kalimbubu, working together, and helping each other are good moral values in practicing Rakut Sitelu. The implication of the Rakut Sitelu or Sangkep Sitelu role in Karonese society is a way to reduce conflicts among Karonese society.
