Blood culture examination is the gold standard in diagnosing bacteremia, but the result come out within 48 to 72 hours. The treatnent will be delayed which could worsen the condition and cause death. Method : This study is a diagnostic study which established from February to April 2016 in the Clinical Pathology Department of Haji Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan. 49 patients with SIRS crileria were suspected with bacteremia in the Emergency Room and leukocyte, blood cufture and procalcitonin test were done. Study samples were collected using consecutive sampling method. Statistic analysis was done using computer program. Result : Procalcitonin has g6% sensitivity, 88% specificity, 89% positive predictive value and 95o/o negative predictice value with 0.98% AUC in ROC curve. Conclusion : Procalcitonin could be used as early supporting diagnostic bacteremia and treatment respon monitoring.en_US
