This paper describes the meaning and function of Partuturan in the Batak Toba community. This paper aims to determine the communication patterns of the Batak Toba people through the Partuturan tradition. When someone meets another person for the first time, they will reveal their respective identities. The identity of the Batak people is the marga/boru, which of the marga/boru can strengthen their relationship with each other even though they have just met. The writer uses a qualitative descriptive method in working on this paper by collecting data, reading books, conducting searches on the internet and also conducting interviews with several Batak Toba people. The conclusion of this discussion is: The identity that exists in the Batak Toba people is Marga/Boru which makes this a reference for them to have a close kinship relationship even though they are not blood related. This makes fellow Batak people who have just met but communicate like close friends because of the partururan tradition instilled from their ancestors.en_US
