THE EFFECT OF ACTIVE ZEOLITE CONCENTRATION AND MIXING TEMPERATURE TO QUALITY OF PURIFIED JELANTAH OIL
The purpose of this research was to know the effect of addition of active zeolite and mixing temperature to the quality of purified jelantah oil. The research was performed using factorial completely randomized design with two factors. The first factor was active zeolite concentration ( K) consisted of K1 = 5%, K2 = 7,5%, K3 = 10%, K4 = 12,5%. The second factor was mixing temperature (T) consisted of T1 = 500C, T2 = 600C, T3 = 700C, T4 = 800C. The purification of jelantah oil was carried out with the addition of active carbon 20% of jelantah oil weight. Parameters observed were water content, free fatty acid content, peroxide value, colour index value, viscosity, and organoleptic value of aroma. The result showed that active zeolite concentration gave highly significant effect on water content, free fatty acid content, peroxide value, colour index value and viscosity of purified jelantah oil. Mixing temperature gave highly significant effect on water content, free fatty acid content, peroxide value, colour index value, viscosity and organoleptic value (aroma) of the purified jelantah oil. The interaction between active zeolite concentration and mixing temperature gave highly significant effect on water content, free fatty acid content, peroxide value and viscosity of purified jelantah oil. The result showed that the best purified jelantah oil was produced using 12,5% active zeolite concentration and 600C mixing temperature.
