dc.description.abstract | This study, entitled The image of the Department of Communication Sciences and
Student Expectations (Descriptive Study of Communication and Image
Department of Social Communication Science Student Expectations USU). The
research objective was to determine the image and expectations of students to the
department of communication sciences. The theory used in this study is
communication, public relations, corporate image, and expectations. This research
is a quantitative and qualitative descriptive method. This method illustrates the
state of the subject or object of research at the present time based on the facts that
appear or as it is .. To look at the assessment of the Department of Social
Communication image selected USU assessment components such as
impressions, beliefs and attitudes of students to the Department of Social
Communication USU. As for seeing the assessment of students' expectations for
the Department of Social Communication USU chosen components such as
assessment of physical evidence (tangible), reliable (reliability), responsiveness
(responsiveness), assurance (assurance), and empathy (empathy). In examining
the image of the Department of Social Communication USU, the authors take a
random sample of 3 (three) students from the Department of Social
Communication USU processed qualitatively produce a negative image. To
investigate the expectations of students to the Department of Social
Communication USU, the authors take a random sample of 47 students of the
Department of Social Communication USU were analyzed quantitatively produce
58.7% of the respondents of the Department of Social Communication USU
reliable and guaranteed to make the Department of Social Communication USU
be more preferably by 73.4% of respondents, but 51.6% of the students said that
the Ministry of Social Communication Sciences USU had inadequate physical
facilities, yet responsive as much as 59.1% of respondents and not empathize as
much as 57.4% responden.Sampel taken as many as 47 respondents obtained from
Taro Yamane formula calculation. The sampling technique used is Proportionate
Stratified Random Sampling. Data collection techniques used in this study in two
ways Library Studies and Field Studies. The data analysis technique used is the
