| dc.description.abstract | Background: RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis) is a chronic disease with a variety
of systemic manifestations. One of these is hearing disorders. Both
Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SNHL) and Conductive Hearing Loss (CHL)
have been reported in RA patients, but the results are not in agreement.
So, study of the relation between RA and hearing disorders is seem to be
important.
Purpose: to find out the correlation between RA and hearing disorders.
Methods: This analitical cross-sectional study was carried out with 19 RA
patients and 19 non-RA controls on March 2015 until March 2016. All
subjects underwent clinical and laboratory examinations, pure tone
audiometry and tympanometry.
Results: There is statistical significancy between RA and hearing
disorders. Hearing disorder w s seen in 78, 9% RA patients and 21, 1 %
non-RA controls. Air-bone gap mean at 500 Hz, 2000 Hz, and 4000 Hz of
the right ear was signicantl 'I higher in RA group when compared to
respective means in non-RA bontrol group. Whereas air-bone gap mean
at 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz, and 400? Hz of the left ear was signicantly higher in
the RA group.
Conclusion: Hearing disorders is a common finding in RA. SNHL which
is the most common finding in this study is related to vasculitis and
ototoxic drugs used in treatment. | en_US |
